Day 12 Saturday August 4, 2007

We made pretty good time and we're already pulling in the main channel entrance to Yaquina Bay at 10am. The most prominent landmark here is a large bridge crossing the bay that you pass under to get to Newport and the marina. It is a beautiful bridge and we had the best view possible, from both sides even. We docked the boat and made the usual rounds…check in, hook up the power, find the bathrooms, shower, etc. There is a large RV park right across from the marina with shared facilities between them. After getting familiarized with our surrounding we realize that the main town of Newport is on the other side of the bridge. We found out that free shuttles run across town all day, which is perfect for us. It seemed like a nap was pretty high on the agenda for today so we would leave downtown Newport for tomorrow.

Around 6pm we drug ourselves out and walked across the harbor to the brewery/restaurant that the lady at the marina office suggested. It was a cool place. You actually have to walk through the brewery itself to the restaurant that is in the back, dock side. After a satisfying dinner we came back to the boat and felt like we had accomplished enough for today. And so the gin rummy tournament I started with my Dad continues, it is neck and neck now….
